Photographs From The Edge
We’re living right on the edge out here in the west of Ireland. There’s nowhere like it for inspiration. And we’re blessed with some great photographers who are able to gather up all that clean Atlantic light in the lenses. Photo essays here include work by Sligo friends cinematographer Peter Martin, designer/journalist/TV Presenter Leonie Cornelius, and Photographer Colin Gillen. "Blue" our 10 year old Irish red setter took every chance to upstage everyone
Designer Jewellery from the edge of Europe
Ireland's Wild Atlantic Coast at the Heart of contemporary Jewellery design
Martina Hamilton Jewellery Collections are handmade in Sligo, a stunningly beautiful place on Ireland's wild Atlantic coast. And it is the wildness of the Atlantic ocean, the wet crystal light and sea-glass waves, the tide burnished beaches, the shells and the coastal flowers which are the inspiration for our jewellery designs. A newly-discovered ancestral link for designer Martina with Dernish, a tiny Island off Sligo's west coast which has been uninhabited since the 1950s, has strengthened that inspiration. All jewelry pieces in our collections are handmade in our studio workshop in Sligo, by our family team of master goldsmiths.
GOLD AND SILVER RINGS DESIGNED AND MADE TO COMMISSION
I am always really delighted when I get an opportunity to create a ring to a customers own design. The process of creating a piece, responding to the instinct and imagination of the customer is always exhilarating. The jewellery I am making symbolizes a moment of great significance in that persons life, be it a wedding, a special birthday, a graduation or other milestone event. So it's likely the piece we create will be with our customer throughout their lives and quite possibly will be passed on to the next generation. This is a unique privilege for me, that the work we do becomes a part of peoples lives in this way.
If you are considering having a ring made for your engagement, your wedding or for any other significant occasion in life please don't hesitate to contact me. I will be happy to discuss the commission, design and making process with you, as well as preferences you may initially have for precious metal and stone settings.
